Born in the morning of December 19th, 1974 in Edmonton, Guy Duke hasn't stayed still for long. Whether it was repeatedly climbing the stairs before he could even walk, or later, taking off for entire days with his friends just to see what they could find, Guy has always been an explorer.
Growing up as the Canada Post equivalent of an army brat, Guy moved with his family around BC and Alberta. This made answering the question "Where are you from?" more difficult for him than most people. Not that Guy minds. It just gives him a chance to tell his story.
Early in his adulthood, Guy met up with Kara and they decided to get married. Though the marriage did not work out, they remain good friends and have managed to co-raise their son, Keegan. Guy is immensely proud of his son and thinks he is growing up to be a great kid, and he wishes he had the opportunity to see Keegan more often.
The constant movement and the need to explore led Guy to school and to discover the field of archaeology. It was here that he realized that he could delve into his nerdy, academic side and still indulge his wanderlust. Through archaeology, he has been able to go to such places as Mexico, Antigua, and Ecuador, and he hopes to add to that list.
However, it hasn't solely been archaeology that has allowed Guy to travel. As a way to go to a place he likely wouldn't have been able to otherwise, Guy signed up to teach English in South Korea for a year. It was here that he met Laura, and his path was set. Guy + Laura = happy.
After coming back to Canada, Guy went back to school for a second undergraduate degree, this time in Anthropology/Latin American Studies. He realized here that he and school still had a ways to go, and decided that he would pursue grad school when he was finished his second degree. He has just been accepted into the Masters program with the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University, and is excited about starting up in the fall.
Guy loves Laurms, music, kittens, Mexico, spicy food, kickin' it old school, his bike, exploring, and elk.
